Syrian man appears in court with child
A Syrian man suspected of illegally entering Northern Cyprus with a two-year-old child appeared before a court in Lefkoşa.
According to police, on July 7 the man went to the immigration office on his own and said he had crossed the border by hiding in the trailer of a truck that entered the territory of the TRNC through an unauthorized crossing point.
An inspection showed that neither he nor the child had a record of lawful entry into Northern Cyprus.
During the proceedings, the man said he had found himself in a difficult life situation, asked for help and stated that he wanted to return to his homeland together with the child.
The court ordered that the suspect be held in custody for up to seven days.
