Court remands man who stabbed himself in Famagusta in custody for three days
A man who previously caused a knife incident on one of the streets of Famagusta appeared in court. During the hearing, police said that he would also require medical assistance following the incident.
According to police, 42-year-old H.C. was detained after stabbing himself several times with a knife on Gazi Mustafa Kemal Avenue in Famagusta on 31 July, and then began waving it around and posing a danger to those nearby.
It was stated in court that the man blocked the path of passing vehicles, shouted and waved the knife in different directions. After his arrest, he was taken to Famagusta State Hospital for a medical examination and treatment.
The court ordered that the man remain in custody for three days as the investigation continues.
It also emerged that H.C. had previously been held accountable following another incident — he was accused of lighting a fire in front of an apartment building and burning various items on a gas cylinder.
Following the latest incident, many residents noted on social media that the man needed not only to be held accountable for his actions, but also to receive professional medical assistance.
