MP Hasan Taçoy backs UBP candidate for mayor of Lefkoşa

Hasan Taçoy, an MP from the ruling National Unity Party (UBP), said that the party organization in Lefkoşa is ready for both the local and general elections, and that he fully supports Mehmet Aktunç, the candidate for mayor of the Turkish Municipality of Lefkoşa.

“Together we are strong, together we will succeed. We will lift both Lefkoşa and our country up again,” Taçoy said. He called on party members to set aside grievances, disputes and personal scores and achieve organizational unity.

According to the MP, the party hopes to repeat the result achieved in the Gönyeli-Alayköy Municipality, in the Turkish Municipality of Lefkoşa and in the Değirmenlik-Akıncılar Municipality. Another task is to restore UBP’s status as the country’s leading party.

Taçoy described Aktunç as a young and energetic candidate with professional experience as an architect. According to him, Aktunç is working on projects intended to rid the capital of haphazard development.

Taçoy also said that it was necessary to unite the community’s forces against what he described as rising nationalist sentiment in the Republic of Cyprus. The local and general elections in the TRNC will be held on the same day, December 6.
