Chamber of Commerce Calls for Investigation into Shopping Deliveries from South Cyprus
The Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KTTO) called on the competent authorities to investigate social media advertisements for a service delivering purchases from shops in the Republic of Cyprus to North Cyprus.
The move follows the circulation of posts offering to “collect your purchases from shops in the South and deliver them to North Cyprus”. The KTTO said it was necessary to urgently determine under which legislation such a service is provided and whether all the required customs and tax obligations are being met.
The chamber also noted that the open advertising of such services on social media once again highlights the need for tighter controls at crossing points.
The KTTO called on the relevant authorities to carry out the necessary checks without delay and take action.
