TRNC electoral calendar starts on 7 October: elections to be held on 6 December
The electoral calendar in the TRNC will begin on 7 October. Bertan Özerdağ, President of the Supreme Court and head of the Supreme Electoral Council (YSK), announced that general and local elections in Northern Cyprus will be held on the same day, 6 December.

Özerdağ recalled that the TRNC had never previously held two votes simultaneously, so the electoral council will have to take additional measures.
To simplify the counting of votes and the preparation of protocols, the number of ballot boxes will be increased in each electoral district. The YSK Information and Computing Centre will complete preparations for the systems next week.
Snap elections were called following the political crisis caused by the disaster involving a passenger vessel off Kyrenia on 30 August. On 10 September, the TRNC parliament approved the decision to hold the general and local elections on the same day, 6 December.
