TRNC Ministry of Public Works and Transport dismisses permanent secretary and two directors
Following the vessel disaster off Kyrenia, the TRNC Ministry of Public Works and Transport has reshuffled its senior leadership: as of September 5, 2026, the ministry’s permanent secretary Enver Öztürk, ministry director Mustafa Ambar and Ports Department director Emsal Emirzadeoğluları have been relieved of their duties.

Decrees on the dismissals and the new appointment were published in the official gazette of the TRNC. Murat Saler has been appointed the ministry’s new permanent secretary, effective the same date.
The documents were signed by Finance Minister and acting Minister of Public Works and Transport Özdemir Berova, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel and President Tufan Erhürman.
The personnel decisions continue a series of resignations following the deaths in the Filo Jet catamaran disaster, which sank off Kyrenia on August 30. Earlier, the prime minister relieved Minister of Public Works and Transport Erhan Arıklı of his duties, while the Rebirth Party (YDP) announced its withdrawal from the government.
According to the latest data, the death toll from the disaster has risen to 12, while the search for 16 people still missing continues at a depth of 550 metres.
