TRNC appoints new director of the Ministry of Interior and head of the Famagusta District Administration

The leadership of the Ministry of Interior and the Famagusta District Administration has changed in the TRNC. The decisions were published in the TRNC’s Official Gazette on 19 September and took effect on 20 September: Murat Zeki Civelek became director of the ministry, while Mustafa Yaver became head of the Famagusta District Administration.

Mustafa Yaver had previously headed the Ministry of Interior’s administration as the ministry’s director. As of the same date, he was relieved of that position and transferred to Famagusta, where he replaced Özden Keser, who had headed the district administration since 28 April 2023.

Murat Zeki Civelek moved to the post of ministry director from his position as director of the Local Government Department. The decisions do not specify who will take over the vacant position.

Both appointments were made with a provision allowing the official to be removed from office at any time without explanation. In the TRNC, the district administration is a local body of central government: the kaymakam coordinates the work of government services in the district and liaises with municipalities.
