Fire extinguishers and car emergency kits in the TRNC to be sold only with CE or TSE certificates

The TRNC Ministry of Economy and Energy has included fire extinguishers and car emergency kits — a warning triangle, first-aid kit and fire extinguisher — on the list of goods subject to state control. They may now be sold only with a CE, TSE or equivalent internationally recognised certificate.

The decision was adopted by the Council of Ministers under Article 3 of the 1977 Goods and Services Law, published in the Official Gazette and came into force on 18 September.

The requirement also applies to the points of sale themselves: when selling a certified product, sellers are required to provide buyers with the necessary explanations.

Minister of Economy and Energy Hasan Taçoy stressed that a free-market economy does not mean an absence of oversight. According to him, the ministry will take without hesitation any steps that protect citizens and prevent harm to them.
