TRNC police step up patrols around schools and deploy drones
TRNC police stepped up controls around schools: as part of the “Safe School” project, additional foot and vehicle patrols operated at educational institutions on September 14 and 15, while road conditions were monitored from the air using drones.
According to the TRNC police press service, units were stationed directly outside schools to maintain order on the roads and ensure pedestrian safety. The patrols made sure that students reached school without incident.
At the same time, police officers inspected retail outlets near schools — primarily those selling cigarettes and tobacco products.
The inspections coincided with the start of the school year. Classes in the TRNC began on September 14: 59,000 children are studying at 196 schools, supported by 6,500 teachers. On September 15, secondary school and vocational high school students returned to their studies.
“The safety of our students, teachers and schools is our priority,” police said, promising to continue such inspections.
