TRNC government is building 1,474 social housing apartments in Alayköy, Dikmen and Maraş

TRNC Minister of the Interior Dursun Oğuz said that 1,474 social housing apartments are being built in Northern Cyprus: 584 in Alayköy, 226 in the first phase in Dikmen and 664 in Maraş (Varosha) near Famagusta.

According to the minister, the permitting procedures for the Maraş project are nearing completion. Social housing projects are also being prepared in Esentepe, Çamlıbel, Bostancı, Haspolat and Dipkarpaz on the Karpas Peninsula, while the programme as a whole covers the districts of Kyrenia, Famagusta, Güzelyurt, Lefkoşa and İskele.

The government’s housing policy is based on three areas. The first is the “First Home” loan, which has been taken up by 1,250 people. The second is the allocation of plots in rural areas, where the state provides infrastructure. The third is the construction of social housing.

“We do not limit social housing to particular regions. We will reach every district where there is a need,” Oğuz said. He stressed that services are provided regardless of political affiliation, and that housing support remains a permanent government policy rather than an election campaign activity.

In an interview with Kıbrıs Postası TV, the minister also addressed school safety following the February earthquakes and described protecting children as a shared responsibility.
