Ferry companies introduce life-jacket briefings on TRNC–Turkey routes

Following the sinking of the Filo Jet vessel off Girne, new safety rules have been introduced on maritime routes between the TRNC and Turkey: before departure, the crew shows passengers how to use a life jacket and what to do in an emergency — just as they do on board an aircraft.

The briefings are conducted by the shipping companies themselves, with a demonstration held before each voyage.

According to the TRNC Ministry of Public Works and Transport, Akgünler Denizcilik has resumed services between Northern Cyprus and Turkey. The routes for the company were determined by the coast guard command.

Filo Denizcilik services remain suspended until further instructions.

Some passengers switched to air travel after the disaster. Airlines have revised their plans for the number of seats and are ready to add extra flights.

The Filo Jet vessel sank off Girne, and the search has entered its seventh day. According to TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, the death toll has risen to 13, while 15 people are still reported missing. TCG Işın and TCG Alemdar vessels are operating at the scene, with dives being conducted at a depth of around 550 m.
