The school year in Northern Cyprus will begin on September 14 — 59,000 students in 196 schools

The 2026–2027 school year in the TRNC will begin on September 14: primary school students will return to their desks that day, while middle schools and vocational high schools will open on September 15. Around 59,000 students will attend 196 schools in total, with approximately 6,500 teachers providing their classes.

Most children are enrolled in primary education: there are 132 schools, including 110 public and 22 private institutions, which expect approximately 28,000 students. Around 25,600 students will attend 50 general secondary schools — 38 public and 12 private.

Some 4,200 students are expected at 14 vocational and technical schools, while around 900 more will study at the Taner Akcan Apprenticeship and Adult Education Centre.

According to the academic calendar of the TRNC Ministry of National Education, the first semester will end on January 29, 2027, with report cards being issued. The second semester will begin on February 16: the school year will end on June 14, 2027, in primary schools and on June 11 in middle schools and vocational high schools.

The calendar also sets the examination dates. The first stage of the college entrance examination (KGS-1) will take place on January 30, 2027, and the second stage (KGS-2) on June 5. The placement examination for Anatolian high schools and science high schools is scheduled for June 19, while entrance examinations for the Fine Arts High School in Lefkoşa will be held from June 23 to 25. Applications for vocational high school programmes will be accepted from June 16 to 22, and the lists of students admitted to ninth grade will be published on June 23.
