TRNC government promises reached daily life by just 19.8% — STUDY

The “UBP Çalışmıyor” (“UBP Doesn’t Work”) project has assessed seven years of the National Unity Party (UBP) at the helm of the TRNC executive: of the 103 measurable promises in the 2022–2026 government programme, 51.5% were formally fulfilled, while the authors assessed the real impact on the daily lives of Northern Cyprus residents at 19.8%.

The count starts from 22 May 2019. By 29 August 2026, this amounts to 2,657 days — more than seven years and three months of UBP’s continuous presence at the centre of executive power.

The assessment included only those points in the 2022–2026 programme that could be measured — 103 promises in total. The formal score was calculated based on visible steps: laws adopted, tenders announced, digital portals launched and projects advanced. On this scale, the government scored 51.5 points out of 100.

The authors called the second scale real-life impact. It took other factors into account: whether the stated problem had been solved, whether residents could experience the service themselves and whether their lives had become noticeably more convenient. By these criteria, the result was 19.8 points out of 100.

The study emphasises that adopting a law, conducting a tender or launching a project is not enough in itself: what matters is whether anything has changed in people’s lives. In the authors’ view, the gap between the two scores shows the difference between what has been done on paper and what has actually reached residents.
