TRNC scientist presents promising development for asthma treatment
Professor Ibrahim Benter, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Final International University, has presented research that could open up new possibilities for treating asthma and other chronic respiratory diseases through nanotechnology.
According to the study, around 260 million people worldwide currently suffer from respiratory diseases. At the same time, most existing medicines only relieve symptoms and are unable to stop the progression of chronic disease, making the search for new treatment methods particularly relevant.
The study showed that using the molecule Angiotensin-(1-7) with nanotechnology-based delivery systems can reduce inflammation and prevent the development of fibrosis in asthma and other lung diseases.
The authors also note that clinical studies conducted to date confirm the safety and potential efficacy of this molecule.
Angiotensin-(1-7) was discovered by Professor Ibrahim Benter back in 1993. Today, 308 clinical studies examining its use in various diseases are being conducted at university hospitals in the United States.
A scientific article entitled Angiotensin-(1-7) in asthma and pulmonary fibrosis: mechanisms of action, clinical safety, and nano-delivery strategies was published on 3 August 2026 in the journal Frontiers in Pharmacology.
According to the researchers, the findings could form the basis for developing new methods to treat asthma and other respiratory diseases using nanotechnology.
