A construction scandal is unfolding in Alanya: out of 686 inspected buildings, 672 were found to be unsafe. More than 5,000 structures — apartments, shops, and hotels — are set for demolition.
The municipality has already begun demolitions, but legal proceedings are slowing the process. If property owners take the matter to court, demolition may be delayed by 3–5 years.
Authorities say some owners are deliberately exploiting legal loopholes to delay demolition and retain their properties. However, the municipality emphasizes that the law is on its side and that unsafe buildings will ultimately be removed.
Experts warn that delaying demolitions threatens public safety and reduces the region’s appeal to tourists.
