Firefighting helicopter handed over in Ercan for Northern Cyprus
Vice President of Türkiye Cevdet Yılmaz arrived in Northern Cyprus on an official visit. The first event on the program was the ceremony for the handover of the Ka-32 firefighting helicopter, which took place at Ercan Airport.
The Turkish delegation also included Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, and other officials.
Cevdet Yılmaz noted that the presence of the firefighting helicopter will allow for a faster response to fires and significantly reduce their consequences.
Turkey’s Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı said that the helicopter, with a water-carrying capacity of 2.5 tons, has been handed over to the TRNC Forestry Department for the period of heightened fire danger. According to him, Turkey will continue to provide additional support if necessary.
In addition, Yumaklı said that the project to irrigate the Mesaoria Plain is expected to be completed in 2027, while construction of the 207-kilometer drinking water supply system is in its final stage.
