42 finalist films selected for international film festival in Famagusta

Forty-two films have reached the final round of the competition at the first Famagusta International Film Festival. The festival will take place in Famagusta on 9–11 October, with screenings open to the public and free of charge.

The festival, organised with the support of the Famagusta Municipality, will be held for the first time this year and will bring filmmakers from different countries around the world to the city. Following the selection by the preliminary jury chaired by Mert Yusuf Özlüк, 42 films reached the final round. The finalists will be evaluated by the festival’s main juries and will compete for awards in various categories.

The competition will take place in two main categories — narrative short films and documentaries. The main jury for the narrative short film competition is headed by Ezel Akay, while the documentary jury is chaired by Associate Professor Dr Yetin Arslan. The members of the main juries will assess the finalist films and determine the festival’s winners.

The final programme includes films from Turkey, Iran, Bulgaria, Pakistan, Georgia, Denmark, China, the Czech Republic, Palestine, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Italy, Greece, India, Croatia, Spain, Costa Rica, the United States, Belarus, Poland and Ukraine.

Screenings of the finalist films will take place in Famagusta from 9 to 11 October. In addition to film screenings, the festival programme includes various events, meetings and discussions with representatives of the film industry and film enthusiasts. The organisers hope that in the coming years the Famagusta International Film Festival will develop and become one of the most significant cultural and artistic projects in Northern Cyprus.
