Tourist police begin work in Famagusta
The Police General Directorate of the TRNC has expanded the tourist police project by launching it in Famagusta. Similar units had previously already started work in İskele, Lefkoşa and Girne. Officers of the new service now patrol key historical and tourist locations, including the old town of Gazimağusa (Suriçi), MacKenzie Beach in İskele, the Surlariçi district in Lefkoşa and the Old Harbour of Girne.
The units include police officers who have completed special language training and first aid courses. They carry out foot and bicycle patrols in crowded areas. The authority says their main tasks are ensuring safety, maintaining public order, and providing information and assistance to foreign visitors.
