Blood donation day to take place in Kyrenia on 31 August
The Kyrenia Municipality, together with the Nicosia Blood Bank and the blood donor recruitment unit for thalassaemia patients, will hold a blood donation drive. The drive will take place on Monday, 31 August, from 10:00 to 14:00 at the new Kyrenia Municipality building.
The organisers urged residents and municipal employees to take part in the drive amid a shortage of blood supplies. A number of conditions must be met to donate blood: donors must not consume alcohol the day before the procedure and must sleep for at least five hours. They must not have undergone surgery or anaesthesia, or had piercings, acupuncture, tattoos or Botox during the past year.
People with symptoms of flu or a cold, a cough or an elevated temperature, as well as those taking antibiotics, are not eligible to donate blood.
