Passenger rides on car bonnet in Güzelyurt
Police in Güzelyurt, Northern Cyprus, have taken action against a car driver and a passenger after a video of a dangerous ride appeared on social media. The incident took place the previous evening in the car park near the Open Market: while the car was moving, the woman was sitting directly on the front bonnet, putting herself and others at serious risk. After the footage was shared on social media, Güzelyurt traffic police identified those involved and issued official reports. It was found that the driver was under the influence of alcohol: he was fined 70,893 TL and given 100 penalty points for drunk driving. He received a further fine of 14,178.60 TL and 25 points for dangerous driving, as well as 10,633.95 TL and 10 points for carrying a passenger outside a designated seat. In total, the driver's fines amounted to 95,705.55 TL, while the number of penalty points reached 135. The passenger who was riding on the bonnet was issued a separate fine of 7,089.30 TL. Official proceedings have been initiated against both individuals.
