Two fires caused by short circuits occurred in Lefkoşa and Minareliköy
Two separate fires broke out on the evening of 13 August in Lefkoşa and Minareliköy due to short circuits in electrical wiring. At around 21:00, electrical cables in the electricity meter cabinets of one of the apartment buildings on Şehit Erdoğan Yıldız Street caught fire in the Kızılbaş area of Lefkoşa. The fire was extinguished by fire service crews. Fifteen residents of the building affected by smoke were examined by medical workers who arrived at the scene.
At approximately the same time, the engine compartment of a moving truck tractor caught fire on the Famagusta — Lefkoşa highway, in the Minareliköy area opposite Oreo Ltd. The cause was also a short circuit in the electrical system.
The fire damaged electrical and plastic components in the engine compartment. Other drivers extinguished the blaze using fire extinguishers. Firefighters who arrived at the scene took the necessary safety measures and cleared the road of spilled engine oil.
Police continue to investigate both incidents
