Man remanded in custody in Lefkoşa over violence against his wife
A man in Lefkoşa was remanded in custody in connection with allegations of harassing his wife by phone, threatening violence and seriously assaulting her.
According to the court, the incident took place on 26 July at around 03:30. Police allege that the man called his wife and began harassing her by phone, then went to their home and threatened to harm her, her mother and her child.
The investigation alleges that the man grabbed the woman by the hair and dragged her, squeezed her throat with his right hand and struck her in the face with his left hand, causing serious injuries.
After the complaint was filed, the woman was taken to the emergency department, where she received medical treatment and a report on her injuries was prepared.
Police also reported that complaints had previously been filed against the man in 2024 and 2025 for using violence against his wife, but the cases did not proceed at the time.
Judge Şevket Gazi ordered that the accused be remanded in custody for up to 15 days while the investigation continues. The man, a Turkmenistan national, told the court that he regretted what had happened.
