Man detained in Lefkoşa over alleged land sale fraud

A man identified as M.K. has been detained in Lefkoşa on suspicion of fraudulently obtaining money from the sale of two plots of land. The court ordered that he remain in custody for three days. According to police, in March–April 2023, the man agreed with H.A. to sell two plots in the Çamlıbel area of Girne for £280,000. As part of the deal, he received £127,640 from the buyer.

However, according to the police statement, the man later sold and transferred the same plots to another company: one plot on 13 May 2025 and the second on 15 July 2025. According to the investigation, after transferring the plots, he continued to receive money from H.A., despite the property having already been sold to another party.

Following the complaint, police detained the suspect on the basis of a court warrant. According to police, he also gave a voluntary statement, the contents of which have yet to be verified. The investigation needs to obtain additional statements and conduct checks at the Land Registry Department regarding the transactions involving the plots.

Senior Judge Şerife Katip ordered that the suspect remain in police custody for three days for the purposes of the investigation.
