Kuwait donates $50,000 to the Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus
The State of Kuwait has allocated $50,000 to the Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus. The funds will be used to search for and identify the remains of missing persons and hand them over to their families.
According to the Committee, taking into account the latest contribution, equivalent to €43,750, the total amount of Kuwait’s financial assistance since 2014 has reached €243,750.
The Committee noted that the donation would help continue its work in 2026 and bring an end to the decades-long uncertainty faced by the families of missing persons.
The Committee on Missing Persons was established in 1981 under the auspices of the UN, based on an agreement between Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots. The project to exhume and identify remains has been operating since 2006, with the European Union remaining its main financial partner.
To date, the identities of 1,081 missing persons have been established, after which their remains were handed over to relatives for burial. International financial support is still needed for the Committee to continue its work.
