More than 300 animals receive medical examinations at Lefkoşa shelter
More than 300 stray animals received medical examinations at the Lefkoşa shelter, which is managed by the Lefkoşa Municipality (LTB).
As part of the work, the animals were given combination vaccinations and treated for internal and external parasites.
Over the past four years, the Lefkoşa Municipality, together with the Union of Turkish Cypriot Veterinary Surgeons, has also sterilised around 1,200 stray dogs.
The LTB «Sevimli Dostlar» team regularly provides vaccinations, treatment, sterilisation and care for the animals at the shelter. Every year, specialists help more than a thousand stray animals.
The municipality notes that the shelter is a temporary place for animals. The main goal is to find them permanent homes and new owners.
Lefkoşa Mayor Mehmet Harmancı said that improving the living conditions of stray animals and preventing uncontrolled breeding require joint efforts by the municipality, veterinarians, civil society organisations and volunteers.
He also called on residents to support the «Don’t buy — adopt from a shelter» campaign, stressing that every dog or cat placed in a home frees up space for another animal in need of help.
