The Turkish Cypriot Public Servants’ Union (KTAMS) reported that, as of 31 July 2026, the hunger threshold for a family of four is 45,389 Turkish liras, while the poverty threshold is 244,818 Turkish liras per month.

According to the union’s calculations, the minimum monthly cost of a healthy diet is 12,013 liras for an adult woman, 12,266 liras for an adult man, 12,388 liras for a teenager aged 13–18, and 8,720 liras for a child aged 8–12.

KTAMS noted that the calculations are based on the dietary guidelines recommended by the Ministry of Health and average prices provided by the Statistical Institute.

The union also stated that the consumer price index currently in use, with 2015 as its base year, no longer reflects the population’s actual consumption habits and needs to be updated.

In calculating the poverty threshold, expenses for education, healthcare, housing, fuel, electricity, communications, clothing, culture, recreation and entertainment were taken into account in addition to food costs.
