In Turkey, a 2.5-Metre Snake Slithered into a Chicken Coop and Hunted a Rat
A vineyard owner in Turkey witnessed an unexpected hunt right inside a chicken coop. In the Demirci district of Manisa province, a snake measuring about 2.5 metres slithered inside and caught a large rat that had been bothering the owners.
The incident took place in the Bahçeler neighbourhood, in the Serke-Deresi area. Vineyard owner Serdar Çorlu spotted the snake and managed to record what was happening on his mobile phone. The footage shows the huge reptile grabbing the rodent by the tail and trying to drag it away.
Despite the snake's frightening appearance, Çorlu urged people not to kill reptiles. According to him, the snake had effectively helped the owners by getting rid of a large rat that regularly appeared near the chicken coop.
«Please do not kill snakes. Look, it caught a huge rat that had been bothering the chicken coop. Snakes are hugely beneficial to nature», the man said.
The unusual scene attracted attention after the video was published: instead of the familiar story of a snake threatening domestic animals, this time the reptile itself acted as a kind of «sanitation worker» and pest hunter.
