A Major Fire Broke Out in Tirmen Yesterday
At around 13:45 on 10 August, a fire broke out for an as-yet undetermined reason in the forested area of Tirmen, which is part of Famagusta.
Police officers, firefighters, Department of Forestry personnel, Civil Defence teams, military personnel, as well as local residents were dispatched to the scene. All units jointly began fighting the fire from the ground.
Due to the challenging terrain and the inaccessibility of some areas, two helicopters joined the firefighting efforts. Aerial support was provided by the Security Forces and the Department of Forestry. The helicopters made it possible to reach hard-to-access areas more quickly and helped prevent the fire from spreading further.
As a result of the intensive efforts of all the services involved, the fire was brought under control. Work to douse and cool the area then began, with two helicopters also taking part.
Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Hüseyin Çavuş visited the site of the fire and personally inspected the progress of the work. He received information from the officials coordinating the firefighting efforts and thanked all the units for their dedicated and coordinated work.
The ministry noted that aerial intervention was especially helpful in areas with challenging terrain and limited access, significantly supporting ground operations and contributing to the rapid containment of the fire.
