Doctoral study on teaching reading through play published as a book in the TRNC

A book on teaching fluent reading through play has been published in the TRNC. It is based on the doctoral dissertation of Tülay Kaya Tekman, a lecturer in the Department of Turkish Language Teaching at Near East University (Yakın Doğu Üniversitesi), and was published by Bilgem Yayınları.

The book was published under the title “Game-Based Fluent Reading Education: Theoretical Foundations, Practices and Effectiveness Assessment” (Oyun Tabanlı Serbest Okuma Eğitimi: Kuramsal Temeller-Uygulamalar ve Etkililik Değerlendirilmesi).

Tülay Kaya Tekman defended her dissertation in 2024 at the Department of Educational Sciences and Teaching of the same university. The study was supervised by Professor Mustafa Yeniayır, head of the Department of Turkish Language Teaching. He also became a co-author of the book version: the dissertation was revised for publication by the two authors together.

The book examines the theoretical foundations of an approach in which fluent reading is built around play, describes the process of its implementation and assesses its effectiveness. The authors address the book to researchers, teachers and anyone interested in the subject.

Near East University is located in Lefkoşa. The university notes that this is another doctoral study prepared there that has reached readers in book form.
