51 people without legal status detained in Northern Cyprus over two days
Police carried out checks across Northern Cyprus as part of efforts to combat illegal residence. A total of 51 people were detained after it was found that they did not have valid legal status to stay in the TRNC.
According to a statement from the police press service, the checks were conducted in two stages — the day before yesterday and yesterday morning. During the checks carried out the day before yesterday, police identified 4 people who were staying in the TRNC without legal status. All of them were detained, and legal proceedings were initiated against them.
During yesterday’s checks, it was established that another 47 people were residing in the country illegally. They were also detained, after which the relevant procedures were initiated against them. Thus, over two days, checks carried out across Northern Cyprus resulted in the detention of 51 people without legal status to stay.
Police stated that checks aimed at combating illegal residence would continue throughout the country.
