49 road accidents reported in Northern Cyprus in one week: 18 people injured
The Northern Cyprus Police published a weekly report on the road situation for the period from July 13 to 19.
During the week, 49 road accidents occurred in the country, resulting in 18 people being injured. Of these, 16 accidents involved injuries, while another 33 resulted in property damage only.
The main causes of the accidents were speeding (12 cases), failure to give way at intersections (10), failure to keep a safe distance (10), driver inattention (9) and other violations (8).
The total material damage caused by the accidents amounted to 2,375,290 Turkish lira. The highest number of accidents was recorded in Kyrenia — 19. There were 12 accidents in Nicosia, 10 in Famagusta, 5 in Güzelyurt and 3 in İskele.
During the week, the police checked 16,641 drivers. Administrative proceedings were initiated against 2,818 people for traffic violations. Another 299 vehicles were taken off the road, and 9 drivers were detained.
The most common violation was speeding — it was recorded 993 times.
