402 drivers held accountable in Northern Cyprus in one day, 44 vehicles taken off the road
During traffic inspections conducted across Northern Cyprus, police checked 2804 drivers. A total of 402 drivers were held accountable for various traffic violations, 44 vehicles were taken off the road, and six more drivers were detained.
According to police, 159 violations involved exceeding the speed limit, while 34 involved driving under the influence of alcohol. Three drivers were operating vehicles without driving licences and insurance, while another 11 were driving without insurance.
In addition, three drivers were using mobile phones while driving, nine were not wearing seat belts, one vehicle had not passed its inspection, and 30 drivers were operating vehicles without a valid road permit.
Cases of dangerous driving, running a red light, violating traffic signs and road markings, riding without a protective helmet, violating the rules on the use of lighting equipment, operating vehicles without the appropriate permit, and failing to comply with a police order to stop were also recorded.
Another 140 drivers were held accountable for other traffic violations.
