480 drivers fined in Northern Cyprus in one day
The police in Northern Cyprus have summed up the results of another set of road raids. During the day, inspectors checked 3,073 vehicles.
As a result of the checks, 480 drivers were penalised, 59 vehicles were sent to the impound lot, and one driver was arrested.
The most common violations were:
• speeding — 198 cases;
• not wearing a seat belt — 66;
• no vehicle roadworthiness permit — 54;
• driving under the influence of alcohol — 17;
• no insurance — 15;
• operating a vehicle without a technical inspection — 9;
• driving without a licence and insurance — 5;
• using a mobile phone while driving — 2.
Another 114 drivers were penalised for other traffic violations.
The police said such checks will continue across the whole territory of Northern Cyprus.
