Outdoor work banned from 12:00 to 16:00

The Ministry of Labour and Social Security of Northern Cyprus has introduced a temporary ban on carrying out work outdoors and under direct sunlight from 12:00 to 16:00. The restriction will be in effect from 22 July through 1 August inclusive.

As announced by Minister of Labour and Social Security Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu, the decision was made based on the forecast of the TRNC Meteorological Service and an assessment of the risks to workers’ health. It is aimed at preventing heatstroke, dehydration and other consequences of extreme heat.

All employers conducting outdoor activities have been instructed to adjust work schedules and ensure compliance with measures to protect employees’ health.

At the same time, construction and agricultural operations outside populated areas are permitted to start earlier. This also applies to the delivery of inert materials, ready-mix concrete and other construction materials, as well as the use of construction equipment.

The Ministry stressed that it would monitor compliance with the new requirements and called on employers and employees to strictly follow the established rules.
