Heat “broke” traffic light in Lefkoşa: red signal left hanging by a cable
It seems that the extreme heat in Northern Cyprus has begun affecting not only people and equipment, but also road infrastructure. In Lefkoşa, in the Taşkınköy area, an unusual traffic light malfunction occurred at the intersection near the Metropol shopping centre: the section displaying the red signal came loose and was left hanging by a cable, while the green signal continued operating normally.
The incident attracted the attention of eyewitnesses, who posted photos and videos on social media. Despite its comical appearance, the situation poses a potential danger. A malfunctioning traffic light at a busy intersection can cause confusion among drivers and pedestrians, increasing the risk of road accidents.
No information about injuries or accidents related to the incident has been reported so far. Road services are expected to fix the malfunction and restore the traffic light to full operation in the near future.
