In Zümrütköy, a car plunged from a bridge into a riverbed: 18-year-old driver survived
A serious road accident occurred on the Lefkoşa — Güzelyurt highway in the Zümrütköy area, as a car collided with obstacles, went off the bridge and fell into the riverbed.
According to police, the accident occurred around noon on 18 July. The 18-year-old Doğukan Kızılıürek was driving a car with registration number PF 862 towards Lefkoşa. At a bend, he is believed to have lost control of the vehicle.
The car, which left the road, first collided with a telephone-line manhole and then hit the stone barrier of the Zümrütköy bridge. Following the collision, the vehicle overturned and fell from the bridge into the riverbed.
Police, medical and rescue teams arrived at the scene. The driver, who was trapped inside the car, was freed. After receiving first aid at the scene, he was taken to the Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Lefkoşa.
According to police, the young man remains under treatment. The car sustained serious damage.
The cause of the accident is being investigated. Police continue their investigation.
