About ten people attacked a courier in Germasogeia, four arrested

About ten people attacked a 26-year-old food delivery courier in Germasogeia, near Limassol, and took his motorcycle, phone and wallet. Police arrested four people, three of them minors.

The attack took place on Sunday at around 20:25, Cyprus police said. The courier was riding a motorcycle with the delivery service’s branded thermal box when he was stopped and attacked with bats and stones. The attackers took his motorcycle, wallet, mobile phone and around €100 in cash before fleeing.

A patrol that arrived in response to the call noticed that the group was moving aggressively towards another courier, who managed to ride away on his motorcycle. When they saw the police, the attackers scattered, but four were arrested at the scene: two 16-year-olds, a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old. One of the 16-year-olds was found carrying a bank card whose origin he could not explain, while the 18-year-old had a canister of irritant gas.

At around 21:40 that same evening, another attack took place in Mouttagiaka: another 26-year-old courier was injured, but his belongings were not taken. Police are investigating whether the incidents are connected.

The detainees are expected to be brought before the Limassol District Court for a decision on their remand.
