Violator Detained in Northern Cyprus for Attempting to Take Turkey’s TYT Exam Using Someone Else’s Documents
The suspect with the initials S.E.K., who was detained on charges of forging and circulating fake official documents in order to sit for Turkey’s university entrance exam (TYT), appeared in court and was released on bail pending trial.
Details of the offense and the course of the investigation:
The incident took place on 20 June 2026 at around 09:45 at an exam center located on the premises of a university faculty in Haspolat.
— The essence of the scheme. According to testimony from police officer Direnç Has, the suspect did not have his own registration to take the TYT test. To get around this restriction, he took his friend’s registration form, altered the personal details on it, pasted his own photograph onto it, and presented the forged form to the members of the exam board.
— Admission of guilt. The offender was detained on the spot. During the preliminary investigation, he gave voluntary statements in which he fully admitted to the actions attributed to him. Earlier, the court had already ordered that he be held in custody for three days to collect evidence.
Court decision on the preventive measure:
Since the main phase of the police investigation has been completed, Judge Şevket Gazi granted the prosecution’s request to replace the measure with bail. The court approved the following conditions:
— A ban on leaving the territory of the TRNC until the end of the trial.
— Payment of bail in the amount of 20,000 Turkish lira.
— Provision of two reliable sureties, each of whom signed a financial undertaking in the amount of 800,000 Turkish lira.
