105-year-old voter from Paphos prepares to vote again
Paphos district’s oldest voter, 105-year-old Argyri Achillea, once again intends to take part in the vote, reaffirming her unwavering civic stance and commitment to democratic processes.
The resident of Tala village plans to go to the polling station at 11:30, as she has done throughout her life. “After I get dressed, my granddaughter Sofia will take me to vote,” she said, preserving the simplicity and clarity of her habits.
Argyri Achillea has repeatedly emphasized that it is important to her not to miss a single election. Last time she said she would also like to live long enough to vote for the country’s next president. Her wish for Cyprus remains unchanged — “peace and love to the whole world.”
The life of the long-lived woman is closely tied to the history of a Cypriot village. She raised eight children — five sons and three daughters. Today, her large family includes 23 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Sofoklis Achilleos, came from Amargeti and operated bus transport between the villages of Tala and Emba. He passed away more than 27 years ago.
Argyri Achillea herself devoted her life to hard work — she worked in agriculture, took part in harvesting and carob picking, and also labored on the roads to support her family. In addition, she ran a café in Tala, which became an important meeting place for local residents.
The story of the 105-year-old voter remains a symbol of resilience, intergenerational connection and respect for civic duty.
