11-year-old girl found home alone in Paphos — father went to a match

Police in Paphos are investigating the circumstances in which an 11-year-old girl was left home alone. Police received information on the evening of 20 August that a child might be without adult supervision. Officers who arrived at the scene found the 11-year-old girl alone in the house.

According to the child, she lives with her father, who had been abroad for the previous two days. Following the discovery of the girl, the Social Welfare Services of the Republic of Cyprus were notified. They took the child into their care and provided her with the necessary protection.

Police are continuing their investigation to establish the exact circumstances of the incident and determine whether there are grounds for holding anyone accountable.

According to the newspaper «Politis», the girl’s father had travelled abroad to attend a match involving the football club «Pafos FC». It has not yet been reported who was supposed to look after the child during his absence.
