17-year-old Cypriot beaten at festival in Greece

A 17-year-old resident of Cyprus was taken to hospital after being attacked during a festival in the Sitia area of Crete, where he was staying on holiday. The alleged reason for the conflict was the young man dancing with a girl.

According to Greek media, the incident took place on Saturday evening during the festival. Police sources said that nothing serious had occurred between those involved before the conflict began.

It is believed that the 17-year-old Cypriot danced the traditional syrtaki with a girl. Two underage Albanian nationals, aged 16 and 17, reportedly reacted to what happened, after which a fight broke out between the young people.

As a result of the attack, the 17-year-old Cypriot suffered injuries and was taken to hospital, where he received first aid. Doctors did not consider it necessary to admit him, and the young man was discharged soon afterwards.

Both minors were detained by police. However, they gave different accounts of what happened. One admitted hitting the 17-year-old Cypriot, while the other said he had intervened to break up the fight.
