45-year-old Republic of Cyprus citizen detained at Ayios Dometios checkpoint

A 45-year-old citizen of the Republic of Cyprus was reportedly detained yesterday at the Turkish Cypriot checkpoint in Ayios Dometios while crossing from the occupied territories into areas under the control of the Republic of Cyprus.

According to the Cyprus Police, the woman was detained because her details had not been entered into the Turkish Cypriot side’s system during her previous crossing of the checkpoint on Friday. The woman’s 47-year-old husband, also a citizen of the Republic of Cyprus, went to the Ayios Dometios police station and reported that his wife had been detained while leaving the occupied territories.

The Cyprus Police informed the bicommunal Technical Committee on Crime and Criminal Matters about the incident.

Meanwhile, there have been no reports of the incident in the Turkish Cypriot media so far. It is also not known whether the 45-year-old woman will appear in court in the occupied territories today.
