Adidas presents clothing with built-in air conditioning

Adidas, together with designer Rick Owens, has unveiled one of the most unusual developments in recent years — clothing with a built-in cooling system. The new items were shown at Paris Men’s Fashion Week as part of the spring–summer 2027 collection.

The main highlights were an oversized inflatable jacket and shorts. Hidden inside the garments are miniature fans powered by Adidas Climacool technology. When a button is pressed, the clothing fills with air, expands in volume and begins to circulate cool air around the wearer’s body, creating the effect of a personal air conditioner.

According to Rick Owens, the maximum effect is achieved when the set is used with a special cooling vest with ice. The kit was created not as a fashion experiment, but for athletes: the system helps lower core temperature before intense exertion and competitions in extreme heat. Adidas had previously developed the vest for football players taking part in the 2026 World Cup, and similar cooling technologies have already been used for Formula 1 drivers.

The show was especially symbolic: on the day of the runway event, Paris was experiencing an abnormal heatwave, so the models were literally demonstrating how the technology works in real conditions. Visually, the clothing resembles giant air cushions, which became one of the most talked-about details of the collection.

Although the idea of clothing with fans is not entirely new — similar jackets have been used for many years by construction workers and others in Japan, — Adidas and Rick Owens have adapted this concept for high fashion and professional sport for the first time, combining it with the signature Climacool technology.

So far, the company has not said when the unusual clothing will go on sale or how much it will cost. However, the collection has already become one of the most discussed premieres of Paris Fashion Week and shows that, in an increasingly hot climate, sportswear manufacturers are beginning to focus not only on design, but also on active cooling technologies.
