Berlin Hands Over a Copy of Aphrodite's Head to Cyprus

Berlin’s Neues Museum and Humboldt University of Berlin have donated an exact 3D copy of the head of Aphrodite of Lefkollo to the municipality of Paralimni-Deryneia. The high-precision replica of the ancient artifact, whose original was brought to Germany in the late 19th century, is now on display in the town hall building for public viewing.

The original sculpture was found at the site of the ancient settlement of Lefkolla, where a sanctuary of Aphrodite stood during the Hellenistic period. Local authorities described the handover of the copy as a symbolic return of an important historical find to its homeland and a step toward strengthening the region’s ties with its ancient past.
