Hotel bookings in Cyprus for July and August reach 85%

Average hotel occupancy in Cyprus in July and August is around 85%, although this is significantly lower than last year’s figures. Tourism industry representatives point to the impact of regional conflicts, rising energy costs and expensive airfares.

Christos Angelides, Director General of the Pancyprian Association of Hoteliers (PASYΞE), said that booking rates have improved in recent weeks. This is particularly noticeable during holiday weekends, thanks to last-minute bookings from residents of the region and demand from the domestic market.

At the same time, the situation for the autumn season remains uncertain. The tourism industry hopes that demand will recover, but much will depend on further developments in the region.

Haris Papacharalambous, President of the Association of Cyprus Tourist and Travel Agents (ACTTA), noted that every new escalation of tensions in the region immediately affects tourism. In his assessment, the number of overnight stays this year could be approximately 12–14% lower than last year’s record figure.

According to industry representatives, the decline in demand is most noticeable in the free Famagusta area. Most major markets are showing a decline compared with last year, with the exception of Israel, where significant growth was recorded in June.

Despite the challenges, representatives of the hotel sector say they remain optimistic and continue working to maintain service quality and Cyprus’s appeal as a tourist destination.
