Diplomatic scandal: Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry denies ambassador’s voluntary resignation in Cyprus
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has officially denied reports that Ambassador to Cyprus Serhii Nezhynskyi is stepping down of his own free will. The ministry called the diplomat’s public statements manipulative and untrue.
Earlier, Nezhynskyi published a resignation letter addressed to the president, explaining it by his disagreement with the actions of Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, who allegedly demanded the implementation of unlawful and harmful decisions for the state.
However, the Foreign Ministry said that a proposal to dismiss Nezhynskyi due to unsatisfactory performance had been submitted to the country’s leadership back on June 10 — several days before his public statements. The ministry stressed that the diplomat is merely trying to present a forced dismissal as a voluntary departure. Serhii Nezhynskyi has headed the diplomatic mission in Nicosia since July 2025.
