Eurostat: Living standards in Cyprus reached 98% of the EU average
According to fresh Eurostat data, Cyprus is showing stable average living standards across the European Union. In terms of actual individual consumption (AIC), which most accurately reflects households' material well-being, the island has held at 98% of the EU average for two years in a row — in 2024 and 2025.
Key economic indicators of Cyprus:
• GDP per capita: In 2024, the figure stood at 99%, and preliminary estimates for 2025 put it at 98% of the EU average. This placed Cyprus 11th in the European Union, tied with France.
• Average benchmark: For comparison, the average GDP per capita across the EU in 2025 was recorded at around €41,600 (adjusted for purchasing power).
• Accuracy of the estimate: The совпадence of GDP and actual consumption indices in Cyprus points to the objectivity of the data, since GDP is often artificially inflated in countries with a large number of multinational corporations (for example, Ireland or Luxembourg).
Situation in other EU countries for comparison:
• Consumption leaders: Only 8 countries are above the EU average. Luxembourg tops the list (+45%), followed by Germany (+20%) and the Netherlands (+19%). The lowest level of consumption was recorded in Hungary and Latvia (-27%), as well as Estonia (-26%).
• GDP gap: The spread is even wider in economic output. 10 countries rose above the average, led by Luxembourg (+139%) and Ireland (+138%). Greece and Bulgaria were the laggards, at 32% below the average, as well as Latvia (-29%).
