Cyprus civil servants to announce a 24-hour strike
In Cyprus, hourly-paid public sector employees have announced a 24-hour strike for Wednesday, June 24. The reason for the protest is a deadlock in negotiations over a new collective agreement for 2025–2027 that has lasted for more than a year. The SEK, PEO and DEOK unions are demanding higher low wages and additional benefits retroactively — from January 1, 2025.
On the day of the strike, at 10:00, workers will hold a rally outside the Ministry of Finance in Nicosia, after which they will march to the Presidential Palace. The protesters say they earn less than employees with similar duties in the private sector. The unions have warned that the action will continue if the Finance Ministry, citing optimization of public spending, does not make concessions.
