The state allocated almost €112 million for scientific research in Cyprus

In 2025, the Republic of Cyprus’s government spending on research and development amounted to €111.996 million, or €113.9 per resident. This is according to Eurostat data.

Compared with 2024, the volume of funding fell from €150.610 million, when spending amounted to €155.9 per person.

Overall, European Union countries allocated €130.2 billion in their budgets for research and development, equivalent to 0.69% of EU GDP. On average, spending amounted to €288.9 per resident.

The highest government spending on research and development per capita was recorded in Luxembourg — €917.2, Denmark — €627.1 and Germany — €553.5. The lowest figures were recorded in Romania, Hungary and Malta.
