Inflation in Cyprus accelerates to 4.1%, exceeding the EU average
Annual inflation in the Republic of Cyprus reached 4.1% in June 2026, while the average rate in the euro area stood at 2.8% and in the European Union at 2.9%. The data were published by the Statistical Service of Cyprus and Eurostat.
Compared with May, consumer prices in Cyprus rose by 0.9%. This marks the fourth consecutive month of accelerating inflation: it stood at 3.5% in May, 3% in April and 1.5% in March.
The most notable annual price increases were recorded in recreation, sport and culture (+9.7%), as well as in restaurants and hotels (+8.9%). At the same time, clothing and footwear became 8% cheaper, while goods and services related to communications fell by 2.9%.
Energy products made the largest contribution to the increase in prices, with their cost rising by 13% year on year.
In most EU countries, inflation continued to slow in June. The lowest rates were recorded in Sweden (1%), Czechia (1.1%) and Denmark (1.8%), while the highest were registered in Romania (9.2%), Lithuania (5.4%) and Bulgaria (5.2%).
